Tabs for May 26th 2023
We're nearing the end of the month, and officially in summertime weather. Which is ideal for handheld games by the pool. Or some light blog-style reading.
I really enjoyed last weeks' Blast.tv Major in Paris. Deserving winners came out, but the journey seeing big teams crumble and new entrants shine was fantastic. But so shocking how Liquid dropped out in the quarterfinals so easily against a much less experienced team.
- BioShock is in development hell. This is fascinating as it's another example of AAA studios crumbling under the pressure to deliver.
- Making AoE II. Fab video from the 90s!
- Make music with nanoloop. Having just bought a new synth, this is perfect for me to blend mad stuff together.
- NYT reports on faltering eSports industry. Curious they never mention that the tailwind & growth was spurred by lockdowns, like every other "digital" industry. So no, there isn't much slowdown considering where the economy is now.
- myhouse.wad. Crazy detailed and slightly disturbing DOOM map.
- de_westwood. With CS2 coming and the end of CSGO, I was reminiscing about old maps.
- Richard Lewis has a hot take on the CSGO major last week. Not impressive, he thinks. But he does raise some salient points.
- Total Recall V1. Great retrospective video!
- Becoming an accidental Tetris title holder
What I'm playing this week:
- Still Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru on GB.
- Horizon Forbidden West's DLC content on PS5.
- CS2 on PC (Windows).
